The new filter completely stopped the engine surging and works just like the Kohler fuel filters do for half the price. I will buy more in the future.Unfortunately, I had a very hard time removing the steel roll-pin (even using a good hammer and properly sized drive punch. To install the gear, I had to remove the two starter bolts as well because there isn't enough room to slide the gear past the side of the flywheel (with the starter in place). Fortunately, I was able to remove both starter bolts without removing the flywheel. I recommend that you spray the roll pin with penetrating lube, such as WD-40, before attempting to drive the pin out.
