Testing the brake controller is fairly easy. Sever the blue brake output wire near the brake controller leaving enough room to reconnect it and then apply the manual slide. If the manual slide activates the trailer brake output wire properly, try the brake pedal. If either the brake pedal or the manual slide are not functioning properly you will need to test the wires going into the brake controller. I followed the vehicle specific wiring guide provided with the controller, but when I depress the brake pedal the indicator light doesnt come on. The indicator light lights up with the manual override, and it increases brightness as the amount of braking increases, only with the manual override. This unit works great with with excellent control, easy to adjust power levels, and the remote display is great. Having the display on my dash where i can see it without having to look down is great, not that you need to see the display the whole time but for the first few minutes when dialing in the trailer it is great not having to look down to see what numbers you are adjusting to.The control box fits perfectly under the dash and was very easy to wire up with the plug in adapter i bought seperate. This unit works every bit as good as the tekonsha prodigy p3 I had in my last truck, but I really prefer this unit because it has controls that aren't mounted under my dash or on top of my console or the many other places i've gotten creative to try to mount a controller somewhere that is useful. This one was made to be mounted easily in places that look good in your truck and be useful at the same time.After some research, I liked this product and bought it. The hardest part was determining for certain which wire coming off the brake pedal you need to splice into for the signal. I also had the expected amount of trouble running the wiring under the car up to the battery, and putting it in shielding cable, but nothing special. (Well, actually, it took me three days to complete the last connection of the battery ground because I lost the screw repeatedly, and found out I had no replacement at home; I needed a metric bolt.) One thing they do not tell you: the setting adjustment piece (the second plastic box that fastens on your dash) has a tiny red light that signals it has power from the car battery. So this is on 24 hours a day. It is too small an LED light to affect the battery, but where I mounted it it remains visible, and I am not fond of little red lights that suggest something is wrong, when in this case it means everything is working. As far as function, this is the only experience I have with a trailer and brake controller, and it seems to work as expected. I have no complaints. I am very happy with this.The three different components (brains, control, display) were straightforward to install in places that made sense. The controls are very simple. Within just a couple minutes I had the settings good enough to take my 25' travel trailer out of the parting lot. I played with it a little bit while on streets and then on the freeway, and think I've got it dialed in already. This truly only took about 15 minutes I'd say. I'm sure when we head out on the road soon, I'll perhaps get it dialed in a little more, but I'm very confident in the way it stops and starts - very controlled and smooth. So the only two adjustments on it are the power applied and the sensitivity. The sensitivity is just how sensitive the accelerometer works I believe. I never thought I'd be satisfied with a non-proportional controller, but this one may do the trick!I really like having the display separate from the controller, which gives me a safe line of site if adjusting on the move. What I don't like is the red light others have me tioned that is always present on the controller. Like others, this is installed on my motorhome, so I worry about extended storage and battery drain. I feel they could have forgone this light altogether, as the display will show when a trailer is hooked up or not, and a quick press of the buttons on the controller will confirm the unit has power. I am going to see if I can add a switch to the hot wire to turn off the unit. I will update this review as I get some miles on it.Extremely Happy The installation took about 30 minutes after I figured out how I was going to run it with minimal permanent damage to the dash. This is made a little challenging due to the weakness of the foam tape provided. It doesn't last in the sun and the display falls off. The manual lever that also houses the adjustment buttons has a mounting bracket that can be screwed to the dash so that it's secure. The biggest downfall of this brake control is that the manual lever always outputs 100 power. Most other brake controls are set so that the manual lever outputs your maximum or 'gain' setting. This aids in setting up the brake control for a particular trailer.
