I have purchsed two more breville blenders as gifts for my friends. They've been playing bar tender. I highly recommend this product. Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2014 I bought this on the strength of my Breville Sous Chef food processor. The food processor is an awesome machine. Unfortunately, this blender does not measure up. It is nice and heavy, relatively quiet, and does the initial mashing of difficult items well. However, it is unable to puree. My old Oster does a better job with that. I think the RPMS are too low to puree. I bought it to make smoothies, not chunkies. It was so pretty, and matched my Sous Chef. Oh well. I use my Breville Hemisphere daily to blend a healthy protein shake for my family's breakfast comprised of a variety of powdered supplements (no chemicals or artificial anything, things like protein powder, powdered peanut butter, powdered super-food, true cinnamon (not cassia), etc.), uncooked organic oatmeal, raw eggs, and almond milk. Oh, and ice! My last blender, a just-OK Cuisinart CBT-500 I bought years ago before I knew better, routinely left me with ice chunks, bits of oatmeal, and the like. THIS blender delivers a perfectly smooth and velvety shake with hardly a trace of oatmeal, nothing else distinguishable aside from great taste, and especially NO ICE CHIPS. Although I haven't yet used it to blend anything else (we use our Breville Sous Chef for the bulk of our food 'processing'), I am betting I'd be highly impressed. I'm looking forward to outstanding margaritas and pretty much anything I can imagine throwing at it - I'm certain it will deliver results above and beyond my expectations. Though the price is much higher than many inferior products, it is far less expensive than the Vitamix models, and I'm thoroughly impressed with it, considering it to be the best blender I have ever owned. Jug become cloudy quickly, have not been able to clear up using all methods I could find. Warranty is only for one year. Sometimes blades cant get food to come to bottom without help. Avoid hot foods or liquids, unless you vent the lid. It will seep out if you don't. In the end, it would be unfair to compare this directly to a Vitamix, but I will say I was able to get smoothies smooth and ice crushed but it would take a few runs (3-4x the time of a Vitamix) to get close to what VitaMix would be able to do. McJeeee 4.0 out of 5 stars I purchased it back in 2009 to make smoothies with the Ultimate Meal powder and ended up using it for other things as my lifestyle has changed over the years. This blender is amazing for blended ice drinks like margaritas - the ice ends up extremely smooth so you don't get chunks stuck at the bottom of the straw. I like to use frozen fruit to make smoothies as well and the fruit gets pulverized just as well as the ice - no chunks. Recently I started making green smoothies - you know the ones with the whole fruits and veggies like apple and kale and celery. I was worried that the smoothies would be too grainy because in some blenders they don't get chopped up enough. I'm very happy to say that it's no trouble to get a nice creamy consistency with this blender so long as the tougher elements like kale (especially the stems) and apple peel get blended with the liquid base first. Then I add in the rest of the frozen and fresh ingredients and blend again. Finally I add my boosters like flax meal, chia seeds, wheat grass or spirulina powder. Blend again. Then I adjust the liquid if more is needed (sometimes the chia seeds absorb a lot of the liquid, requiring a bit more water to get the consistency I like. Operation is simple. Keep a hand on the lid, hit the button, and let it rip. I usually clean up the counter after the blending gets started, no need to stand right there. It shuts itself off. I just use the blend button. I took a star off because I don't like cleaning the pitcher. The inside is no problem - it's Lexan and rinses away easily, even when I add a grainy scoop of amaranth to the mix. The trick is to rinse the pitcher right away. The blade isn't too tough to clean and it isn't scary sharp like the Ninja (if you haven't tried to clean the Ninja blade, imagine cleaning your sharp food processor blade - the Ninja is like that). It's the metal base that I dislike cleaning. It doesn't come off the pitcher so I feel like I waste a lot of water trying to rinse the gap between the pitcher and base. BUT. If I wash the blender immediately after use there is no problem. It's just a problem when I let it sit. I've had this blender going on 6 years now and it shows no sign of quitting. Would I purchase it again? Maybe. I have my eye on a classic Vita Mix - I like the idea of having a dial to control the speed as well as the easier clean up. You can even take the whole pulp collector out as one piece and set it in the dishwasher. Also, the engine is fitted with thermal overload protection sensors to prevent damage from excessive heat. It the machine heats up too much for the engine to handle, then it will shut down. You should be able to start the machine again in about an hour after it has cooled and the sensors have reset. The cover fits over the spinning cone and other internal components.
